The Best of Ontario

Over the number of years, The Ontario Experience has captured the fantastic hunting and fishing Ontario has to offer.

The Ontario Experience has led us across the gorgeous, vast and diverse landscape of Ontario. Every trip, whether travelling by truck, train, plane or boat, has brought us to some of the friendliest people, experiencing the best cuisines and staying at the most amazing lodges, resorts and outfitters in Canada. The province is packed full of lakes, rivers, streams and breathtaking waterfalls along with thousands and thousands of acres of untouched crown land with hundreds of miles of logging roads and trails to explore.

Over the past number of years, we have captured the fantastic hunting and fishing Ontario has to offer and so much more. The episodes and shows we have filmed emulate the uniqueness of four regions in the province; Sunset Country, Superior Country, Algoma Country and Northeastern Ontario. Though they all share a common thread of world-class hunting and fishing, each region is distinct.

Sunset Country is the region of Ontario that lies just north of the Minnesota Border. It’s home to more fishing and hunting lodges than perhaps anywhere else on earth and can be accessed through any number of means. Sunset Country is famous for its walleye fisheries, and world-class muskie fisheries and is also home to great smallmouth and largemouth bass fisheries. Huge northern pike, crappies, lake trout and more. And also home to world-class moose, bear, deer and grouse hunting.

Superior Country is seated just above the north shore of Lake Superior. Along with the tremendous fishing on Lake Superior, it is home to massive Lake Nipigon, home of the World Record Brook trout. Though Superior Country has tremendous walleye, pike, and other multi-species options trout get’s most of the press here, for good reason. Hunting doesn’t get any better than in Superior Country. A bear, moose or deer hunt here will sure be one of a lifetime and there is no shortage of small game either; the area is full of waterfowl, grouse and hares.

Going North from the east coast of Lake Superior and North of the North Channel of Lake Huron. Algoma Country is nestled in a special place with access to two of the great lakes. Together with the over 1,000 inland lakes this region offers the traditional walleye, northern pike and smallmouth bass fishing but also salmon, brook trout, steelhead and lake trout opportunities to make it truly a multi-species destination. This region is well known for the amazing bear hunting but more famous for the average size structure of these amazing animals with a large number tipping the scale over 400 plus pounds. The grouse population is very strong here and most of the lodges and resorts in the area offer small game packages. If moose hunting is your thing, this is another amazing area to check out.

Beginning on the shores of Lake Huron’s Georgian Bay and stretching north, this region of Ontario is home to what many believe to be the biggest musky ever caught at 65 pounds on Georgian Bay. Other world-class muskie fisheries like Lake Nipissing, the French and Moon Rivers along with others have the potential to shatter records. Of course, smallmouth, walleye, northern pike and more are seemly everywhere in this region. Similar to the rest of Northern Ontario, Northeastern Ontario is a hunter’s paradise whether you’re after big game like bears and deer or targeting small game such as waterfowl, grouse and turkey, this region has it on the menu. If you are interested in a more unique adventure other than a hunting or fishing trip, Northeastern Ontario has a ton of Ecotourism destinations to explore.

If you’re looking for the next adventure, have a passion for the best hunting and fishing in the world or just want to explore beautiful untapped landscapes, a trip to Ontario should be your next step!
