CANADIAN CANOE CULTURE 

The canoe is one of the seven wonders of Canada. It stands for everything Canadian. Without the canoe, there would be no Canada. 

To put a paddle in the water is to feel the quiet power and possibility of Canada's past, its present and its future. To paddle is to plug into the energies of the place, the land, the air, the water, the ancestors, the children who are yet to be born. The paddle connects us, a mix of Canadians new and old, to all of that.

THE CAMPAIGN

Tourism Northern Ontario (TNO), in partnership with Ontario Tourism Marketing Partnership Corporation (OTMPC), is pleased to announce the Canadian Canoe Culture Campaign and the release of the documentary film The Canoe

This joint marketing multi-year campaign will inspire adventurers, novice to avids, to experience Ontario's ‎paddle experiences through these five themes:

  • making real connections with families and friends
  • challenging yourself
  • paddling the landscapes painted by Tom Thomson and the Group of Seven
  • newcomers and paddle like a Canadian
  • shared knowledge through Indigenous experiences

The campaign will unite and unify the paddling community, operators, indigenous communities, destinations, and paddling experts across Ontario via a dynamic marketing approach. The campaign will attract markets from Ontario, Canada, the United States and Overseas.

THE TRAILER FOR THE CANOE

This evocative documentary film captures the human connection and the remarkable bond created by Canada's well-known craft and national symbol, the canoe. It underscores the strength of the canoe and the human spirit and how the canoe can be a vessel for creating deep and meaningful connections. It is a true reflection of what Canadian Canoe Culture looks like today.

The full documentary film can be viewed here. It can also be seen at the Paddling Film Festival at over 120 locations across Canada, the United States and internationally.
