Prefer to sleep without a roof over your head? Simpson and Mississagi Parks offer camping opportunities with excellent trails and beaches. Plenty of room for trailers and tenters alike.

The city is surrounded by countless kilometres of Crown Land. With certain exceptions, Canadian residents are allowed to camp on Crown land for up to 21 days per year in one location. Best of all? This right is free! Bring your tent and supplies and create your own adventure in this rugged outdoor paradise. No booking is required.

Looking for a summer getaway? There are a large number of outdoor options to enjoy! Tee off at Stone Ridge, the City’s championship 18-hole golf course that is surrounded by spectacular views. After your round, have a drink and a bite in the full-service clubhouse then browse the pro shop.

Want to be surrounded by nature? Try the countless kilometres of trails for a walk, hike and bike ride. From rugged to mild there are trails to suit all. If a sandy getaway is your thing, head to one of the City’s pristine, Blue Flag Certified beaches for a swim or to laze away under the sun. If watersports are your thing, hundreds of lakes and rivers a short distance from the City offers opportunities for canoeing, kayaking or paddle boarding with rental options being available. For the more adventurous, portage options abound.

Elliot Lake is an angler's dream! Get out on one of our hundreds of lakes and reel in one of more than 10 species of fish. There are 5 free boat launches throughout the city and rental slips on Elliot Lake. Extend your fishing adventure by staying at one of our lodges or by signing up for our fly-in fishing charter service. These lakes don’t disappear when the snow flies, there is no better place to ice fish. Enjoy the solitude and in many cased have a lake all to yourself.

Winter Fun

The fun continues even when the snow flies. Just because the days are shorter, it doesn’t mean there’s less fun to be had. Mount Dufour is an all-age-friendly ski hill with short lift lines, multiple runs and a licensed chalet to warm up in. Maybe a more leisurely day that includes cross-country skiing or snowshoeing is your thing. Get lost in a winter wonderland that includes countless kilometres of rugged trails and a dedicated groomed cross-country trail. Don’t worry if you don’t have the gear, rental options are available.

More of a gearhead? The City boasts some of the best OFSC snowmobiling and OFATV All Terrain Vehicle trails in the Province. Head out for the day then easily loop back for a meal, supplies at one of the local power sports dealers, or fuel up. Both local clubs host fun and guided rides so come on out and make some new friends.

Enjoy the picturesque views from the Fire Tower Lookout to cap off your day while deciding on your next adventure.
