Ice fishing is an experience you can build a vacation around! From snowmobiling to a remote lake or driving into a four-season resort. Exceptional fishing combined with the peacefulness of the wintery landscape will make for plenty of fish tales told around the hot stove.

Algoma Country offers the true winter explorer a captivating backdrop for trekking the wilderness by ski and snowshoe. Visitors get a sense of what Canada’s great outdoors is all about. From scenic vistas and unexplored rock faces to old-growth forests and winter wildlife sightings, this stunning landscape illustrates what makes this region so special.

Downhill Skiing
The region’s rugged terrain has carved out perfect conditions for one of Canada’s favourite pastimes: downhill skiing. There are many ski opportunities and countless experiences for beginners and experts on both ski hills in our region. Searchmont Resort, one of Ontario’s premier resorts, offers diverse terrain, long runs and an impressive 703 ft vertical drop. Mount Dufour Ski Hill, located within walking distance of Elliot Lake’s downtown core, has short lift lines allowing lots of ski time. Both ski hills offer terrain parks, equipment rentals, lessons, beginner hills, lounge, canteen services and nearby accommodations.

Cross Country Skiing
We boast some of the finest Nordic skiing terrain, track and facilities. Well-groomed, marked trails lead to panoramic views at Stokely Creek Lodge in the Algoma Highlands. King Mountain towers 1,300 ft above the elevation of Lake Superior. Experience frozen waterfalls and lakes in the Hiawatha Highlands. Within distance of our cities and towns, you’ll find plenty of cross-country trail systems.

Snowshoeing
For the explorer wanting to trek by snowshoe, picturesque panoramas, rock races, quiet frozen lakes and old-growth forests with winter wildlife sightings are found here.
