The magic of Lac Seul.
For anyone who doesn’t yet know what the magic of Lac Seul means, simply Google world-famous walleye lake, and it will come up with 50+ pages of links to this incredible fishery located in Northwest Ontario, affectionately called Sunset Country.
We had the opportunity to experience Lac Seul once again this year from Timberlane Lodge,
a drive-to lodge, all but the last few hundred yards paved surface, lakeside destination located on Lac Seul, it's located off Highway 105 on Gold Pine Road to Timberlane Road, a few miles from Ear Falls, located on the Northwest corner of Lac Seul.
According to Wikipedia, Lac Seul has six hundred and forty square miles of surface area.
There is a myriad of fish habitats and several species of fish, making Timberlane Lodge a great Ontario fishing lodge experience. Lac Seul is famous for jigging and trolling walleye.
Weed beds, current breaks and structure conducive for angling northern pike, smallmouth bass, and musky.
As mentioned in Northern Ontario Travel, Lac Seul is one hundred and fifty miles long from West to East with three thousand miles of shoreline, all loaded with reefs, islands and points. Lac Seul’s several inflowing rivers and creeks give it quite possibly the best natural walleye reproductive habitat in the world. With Lac Seul’s many bays, the northern pike, musky, perch, and smallmouth bass have great natural reproduction as well; this truly is a world-class fishery.
We had the pleasure of fishing with Jim Friars of https://www.instagram.com/reelscreamersguiding/, and boy, does he know this body of water like the back of his hand. He sure has his pulse on fish movement and location for anyone looking for a few days of guiding to help you achieve the best angling vacation possible. A few days with a guide like Jim will save you tons of time lost to trial and error and help you pinpoint those big trophy walleyes regardless of the time of year you decide to visit Timberlane Lodge.
We fished a few days with Jim, and from the very first drop of the jig on morning one, we hooked into countless walleye in the fifteen to twenty-seven-inch range, non-stop for hours on end. It truly was magical.
Lac Seul truly is a bucket list location for any dedicated angler, and the folks at Timberlane Lodge really know how to cater to the fishermen that visit the lodge each year.
Timberlane Lodge’s Ear Falls location on Lac Seul is located on the channel of the English River, making the lodge a prime spot to headquarter for your fishing trip. A well-maintained public boat launch is close, and to save time on your trip, keep your boat tied at Timberlane’s docks for your stay. No need to go out far if the weather doesn’t permit, the constant current in front of Timberlane Lodge’s dock and the near-stationary river levels mean a good number of fish can be caught close to camp. If the weather is fair, the entire fertile north end of Lac Seul is at your disposal. The lodge’s rental boats are seventeen feet in length with reliable forty to fifty-horsepower Yamaha motors and a depth finder. The Lodge owners will give a lake map to each fisherman with some spots and advice for your fishing trip.
