The city of North Bay, Ontario punches above its weight when it comes to culture, festivals, cuisine, and general vibes. It's also home to a vibrant 2SLGBTQIA+ culture with a popular Pride Festival that draws tons of revellers every year. We caught up with Toronto-based drag star Kitten Kaboodle about her recent visit hosting the city's annual drag festival. Find out what she thought about this waterfront city just a few hours north of the GTA.

What was the reason you were up in North Bay? Tell us a bit about your visit.

I was invited to North Bay during the pride season to be a judge and perform at the annual local drag pageant. Truly an honour and such a fun experience! The night was one to remember! North Bay definitely knows how to put on a show! Since I was in town some local new and old friends showed me around town. Highlighting some of North Bay's key sights and experiences! I don’t usually get to experience the places I travel to, to perform but I’m so glad I had a chance to this time! I had an absolute blast!

Had you been to North Bay before? First impressions?

No, never. It was my first time in North Bay! My first impressions? Loved it! It’s so darn cute and everyone I met was just so absolutely lovely! Ugh! If it had cheeks I would squeeze them! LOL

Fav restaurant? Fav dish or dessert you ate?

I can't answer that! All we did was eat! BUT I will say all the bakeries were my favourite! I love a dessert! A bread! A carb! LOL, Everything was so fresh and yummy, I wanted it all! The local bakeries are definitely a personal highlight!

Where'd you stay?

I had the pleasure of checking into the newest hotel in North Bay! The Fairfield Inn & Suites. From the friendly staff, to the plentiful amenities/ services and the gorgeous room. This was one of the nicest stays I had the pleasure of enjoying in my Canadian travels! Highly recommend!

Did you check out anything cool around town?

I stayed in North Bay for a whole weekend and got to experience some of North Bay’s highlights! From the waterfront marina, Duchesnay Falls, to all of downtown North Bay and so much more! Every new spot I got to experience was as amazing as the last! Nothing I love more than a scenic city straight out of a movie set, with rich history and culture! North Bay is just that! And it did not disappoint when it comes to cool things around town!

Any queer-friendly spots you can recommend where the vibes were good?

In all honesty, every spot I visited on my trip felt queer-friendly. The people everywhere were so welcoming and so accommodating. It just felt like safe regardless of my gender! North Bay’s vibes as a whole are definitely vibing!

What would you say to someone from Toronto who was thinking of checking out North Bay. Any advice or encouragement to share?

My advice would be: TAKE THE TRIP! The drive there is beautiful,  even to just spend the day! With so many fun and amazing things to experience one day will definitely turn into a weekend! It’s a great getaway that I'm definitely looking forward to experiencing again soon and with so much more to still explore....It’s a new adventure every time!
