Festivals to enjoy in Sudbury
Cinéfest Sudbury Film Festival
Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival is an internationally recognized film event in Canada, which attracts around 35,000 attendees over nine days in September each year. The festival showcases both domestic and international cinema, so both French and English speakers can enjoy these works of cinematic art.
Each of the documentaries and short films highlights artistic quality and inclusion, making it a cultural home run for anyone looking for a creative, interesting experience during their vacation in Sudbury.
Up Here: Emerging Art and Music Festival
Up Here is an annual music festival held every summer in Sudbury by We Live Up Here – a Canadian non-profit organization founded on the simple principle that art strengthens and gives meaning to our community.
The festival brings together dozens of musicians, installation artists, and creatives and turns downtown Sudbury into an immersive, interactive urban art gallery. Mornings are for artists painting the town in celebration of color and creativity (which makes for the perfect photo opp if you’re going to capture art installations, street murals, and colorful creations). Evenings bring with them music performances and general celebrations.
The Northern Lights Festival Boréal
Northern Lights Festival Boréal has been bringing music enthusiasts from Sudbury and beyond together every year since 1972. What sets the Festival Boréal apart from other music festivals is its unique program and schedule. Musicians perform individually in standard concerts and collectively in workshop-style sessions that give them the opportunity to collaborate with other musicians in the festival’s lineup. It's always an exciting time of the year for everyone in Sudbury, so be sure you don't miss out.
Pride: A Rainbow Event
The city of Sudbury takes pride in its annual week-long celebration of the LGBTQ+ community. This festival has been active since 1997, with exciting events like Gay Prom and Big Gay Cabaret held by Fierté Sudbury Pride (FSP), a Sudbury-based non-profit organization. Be sure to check it out if you’re in Sudbury around July.
Food and Beer Festivals in Sudbury
If food is more your thing, you’re in luck.
The annual Canada Day celebration features great food and live entertainment that’s ideal for beer lovers and food connoisseurs alike. Besides scrumptious Canadian favorites, like poutine and craft beer, multicultural delicacies are available for you to sample at this Sudbury event.
Later in the summer, you can have a taste of the Mediterranean at the Italian and Greek festivals as the Italian and Hellenic communities of Sudbury celebrate their food, heritage, music, and culture.
Northern Ontario Microbrew Festival is another go-to celebration during the winter season. The festival is held annually in February, and there’s always plenty of craft beer and spirits available to keep you warm. Live music and other entertainment are also there to keep the party going while you enjoy your favorite beer.
A visit to the Sudbury Blueberry Festival could be a great way to conclude your festival season in a memorable way. The celebration takes place in multiple venues around the city, and it allows you to get actively involved in pie-eating competitions, enjoy blueberry pancakes, blueberry hikes, and garden parties, together with several other blueberry-centered amusements
