Looking for a perfect reason to explore the breathtaking landscapes of Northern Ontario?

Next Friday, July 19th, 2024, Ontario is offering free one-day access to its provincial parks. As part of the Healthy Parks Healthy People Day initiative, visitors can enjoy day permits to the provincial park network without paying the usual admission fees, which range from $9 to $21 per vehicle.

“I invite all Ontarians to take advantage of this free pass to Ontario Parks, an opportunity to immerse yourselves in the joy and wonder of exploring the great outdoors,” Andrea Khanjin, Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks, said in a recent announcement. “Whether you’re looking to get some exercise or seeking a fun and affordable day with your family, I hope this free day will give more people the opportunity to explore everything that their local provincial park has to offer.”

To improve the visitor experience, Ontario recently introduced the option to reserve day-use permits in advance. This measure not only increases access to outdoor spaces but also helps prevent the disappointment of arriving at a park that is already at capacity.

Residents can pre-book day trips online up to five days in advance using the same booking system as for campsites. As of 2024, this convenient program includes 76 of Ontario’s most popular provincial parks. Visit here for a list of parks that can be booked (up to five days) in advance.

The Ministry of Environment is also planning to enhance the province's provincial parks by building 300 new campsites and adding electrical services to more than 800 existing sites—more good news for provincial park lovers!

Plan Your Visit to an Ontario Provincial Park Today

Mark your calendar for July 19, and take advantage of this opportunity to experience the natural beauty and recreational activities that Northern Ontario’s provincial parks have to offer. Whether you’re a seasoned nature lover or a family looking for a memorable day trip, the free access day is the perfect time to explore the great outdoors.
