The incredible diversity of bike rides on cycling routes and trails in Ontario satisfies cyclists of every persuasion—from winter fat biking to summer cycle touring, craggy singletrack to silky pavement. ONTARIO BIKE LAWS AND SAFE CYCLING 

Before riding, it’s important to understand the rules of the road and practise proper safety and handling techniques. Get Ontario’s Guide to Safe Cycling.

Cyclists in Ontario will need to have a few pieces of mandatory safety equipment—always check with the bike shop that your rental includes these items, or bring your own:

• Every cyclist under the age of 18 must wear an approved bicycle helmet. Many mountain bike trail centres require riders of all ages to wear a helmet.
• From a half-hour before sunset until a half-hour after sunrise, cyclists need to improve their visibility with a white or amber front light and a red light or reflector on the rear of the bike.
• E-bike laws require all e-bike operators to be 16 years of age or older and all must wear an approved bicycle or motorcycle helmet.

Additionally, many shops will include a bike lock with rental, and some may be able to offer other handy accessories upon request, such as a bike basket or panniers, water bottle cage, and clipless pedals.

Guided tours and events are a fun, social way to explore new areas and meet people with a shared interest. Take your own bike or rent one near by.

AVERAGE BIKE RENTAL RATES 

Rental rates average between $30 and $45 per day (or $15 to $30 for two to four hours) for a city cruiser, gravel or fat bike. Expect to pay between $50 and $100 per day for a top-of-the-line mountain, road or electric pedal-assist bike. Most outfitters offer reduced daily rates for weekend and week-long rentals. Remember that rates will also vary with geographic location.
