5 New(ish) Products That Are Must Haves For Anglers
As anglers, we are always looking for the latest and greatest inventions to make life on the water easier. Well, this past while, there have been some product introductions that have made some waves in the angling world…if they haven’t yet, they surely will! Here are but 5 new (ish) products that have impressed us!
1. Lidrig (featured photo)
There is nothing quite like the frustration of putting used tackle, be they lures or flies back in a fly box or tackle box while they are still wet. They will…inevitably cause near irreversible damage to the other flies and lures in the box. How, you ask? RUST. Any moisture on any piece of equipment returned to the box will result in cross-rust contamination of all the other flies and lures held within. Lidrig, a magnetic specialty company started out humbly making excellent line nippers – that attach to the brim of your hat magnetically. Always handy, these nippers were the springboard to almost anything you could think of in fishing that could benefit from magnetic technology. Some great products include magnetic mats that stick to a cooler, centre console or gunwale of a boat. Remember the rust problem, stick your hooks to a magnetic console-mounted pad and allow them to dry out before you put them back in the box from whence, they came.
2. Cling Fishing Temperature Tape
We have all seen strip thermometers affixed to the inside of an aquarium. They ensure the water held within is exactly the temperature it needs to be. Proper water temperature is vital to the health, well-being and ultimate growth of any thriving aquarium and its inhabitants. Well, the same goes for angling. There is a safe, moderate and dangerous zone where temperatures can put severe stress on angled fish. Cling Fishing has developed a temperature tape that can be affixed to nearly anything that can get wet to give anglers an indication of safe water temperature. Affix it on the scoop of your net, a paddle, your waders, or even the transducer of your electronics. Without having to fumble with loose thermometers, Temperature Tapes simplifies water temperature safety to ensure a safe release of fish you wish to target. Of course, this is species-dependent!
3. Convoy Gear Roll By Riversmith
Many anglers who love to walk and wade simply don’t have enough room to be able to carry everything they need to the river or lake’s edge. Often, waders must be adorned, boots put on and most definitely, rods, gear and net carried in any way possible. Frankly, sometimes, it gets quite cumbersome. Well, Riversmith has the answer – The Convoy Gear Roll. This advancement in carrying capacity technology will allow most fly anglers the ability to carry everything on their person in a tidy package that can be used as a backpack. Consider a pack that can carry your Rods, reels, boots, waders, jacket, fly boxes, lines, tippet and leader…even your net! Sounds pretty much perfect!
4. The Launch Pad By Scientific Anglers
Fly fishing from the bow or stern of a boat can be challenging at the best of times, but throw in the wind, frantic casts, boat cleats and ropes to name a few and you have a perfect recipe for tangles and ultimate disaster. Especially when that fish of a lifetime shows itself and your line is tangled around a cooler cleat. Well, line management just got a heck of a lot tidier with SA’s Launch Pad. This rubber-fingered portable pad tames your fly line to stay put, all but eliminating wind blow, and the inevitable treacherous tangle. They are as easy to move around as a doormat and can be positioned wherever the angler needs.
