The crew at Fish TV had the opportunity to film at beautiful Lang Lake Resort this year, and what a place it is, set in the Lacloche Mountain Range in Northeastern Ontario with fishing that was outstanding. This resort has been here for over 50 years, so you know they’re doing something right! The service and hospitality here make you feel right at home.

There is plenty to fish for… smallmouth, largemouth, and the lake is known for its lake trout and big northern pike as well. Lang Lake Resort also offers fishing guides to familiarize you with the area and show you the hot spots too. With a chain of connecting lakes like Hannah Lake, Plung Lake, Bear Lake, Little Bear Lake, and Walker Lake, there is no shortage of water to fish.

The first day we arrived, we headed up to Hannah Lake, a picturesque lake that has every piece of structure you can imagine. We looked on the map and we noticed a long tapering point that extended about a quarter mile into the lake, and we knew right off the bat that this was going to be our first spot.

It was a natural grass point that dropped into about 30 feet of water off the end and the same on both sides. The top of the weed point was 6 to 8 feet of water, with small ditches that were a little deeper, and that is what we focused our efforts on. As we started looking at our Garmin, we noticed tons of bait on the edges of those ditches or weed lines, and that’s where the smallies were stacked—along the weed line in that 6 to 8 feet of weeds, but close to the deep drop. We caught several fish in the 3-pound class, with a couple of missed fish that was close to 5 pounds or better.

When you head to Lang Lake Resort, you will want to head to Hannah Lake for some of these smallmouths. On day two, we decided to trailer to a small lake close by for some largemouth (you will have to ask Mark, the owner, about this lake because it’s his little secret). We arrived at a fairly long, narrow lake that was full of structures along with lots of lily pads, trees, weed beds and points. We were in heaven as we were the only boat on the lake!

We decided to start shallow, and what a great choice it was!  We hit the first lily pad bed, tossed out a terminator frog, and watched the whole pad bed start moving with fish trying to attack the frog. Within the first hour of topwater fishing, we had landed over 20 largemouth up to 4 pounds with an average of about 2 to 2 1/2 pounds.

What sets this resort apart from the rest is that everything Lang Lake Resort has to offer is open all year around. They offer ATV rentals, so you can rent a quad and hit the trails, all kinds of water sports from Kayaking to canoeing, as well as water skiing and wakeboarding, which not many other resorts offer.

When it comes to winter, Lang Lake has it all covered…skiing at Boogie Mountain, snowshoe rentals, and ice fishing on several lakes in the area. For the hunter, they have packages for moose hunting, bear hunting, and small game hunting as well. When you are looking for a place with fantastic fishing, hunting, and all-around good family fun that is 15 min from beautiful Espanola, look no further than the outstanding vacation spot of Lang Lake Resort.
