Timmins Museum and Hollinger Open Pit Lookout

Begin your weekend at the Timmins Museum National Exhibition Centre for all the history and tourism information you’ll need. With free entry and friendly staff, you’ll learn how Timmins earned worldwide recognition as a major player in global mining. Don’t miss a tour of The Hollinger House, a 1930s miner’s home, and the prospector’s cabin for a glimpse into everyday life during the city’s mining boom.

Afterwards, take a short drive up Shania Twain Drive to the Hollinger Open Pit Mine. This massive open-pit gold mine is one of the largest of its kind in North America, a reminder of Timmins’ deep connection to the mining industry. From the lookout, you’ll get a sweeping 360-degree view of both the city and the active gold mine below. Unusual? Maybe! But it's a short drive for an epic view.
