If you are looking for a true Canadian fishing vacation, Brennan Harbour Resort is definitely the spot. The nine rental cabins are built around Canadian shield outcroppings overlooking the harbour. Every cabin has a spectacular view, looking over the Whalesback Channel, in the town of Spanish. This area is rich with history, once being a sawmill for the booming logging industry back in the early 1900s. The fishing camp itself was established in the 1940s, and the owners, James and Casey, have done a fabulous job in preserving the history and creating a clean, friendly atmosphere. The cabins have all the amenities you need for a comfortable stay, including a full bathroom, full-size fridge, microwave, toaster, all dishes, pots and pans and bed linens.

Boats, BBQs, and the Best Views on the Whalesback Channel

There are a number of rental fishing boats available at Brennan Harbour Resort, or you could bring your own boat, which you will launch at the Spanish municipal boat ramp two minutes down the road. The games room is a fantastic place to kick back, learn the history of the area and share fishing stories from your day on the water. There’s a screened-in gazebo with a couple of barbeques and a fish frying station, if you want to take advantage of the magnificent view while you cook and dine.

Fishing Tips for Brennan Harbour Anglers

The fishing here is nothing short of spectacular. Located on the North shores of Lake Huron, there’s an abundance of every freshwater species imaginable. The spring walleye run is second to none, and the bass and pike provide plenty of action throughout the summer months. My love for bass fishing gets me excited every time I head back to this area. The smallmouth bass seem to be everywhere. Every shoreline, every island, you’ll have a chance to catch one of these bronze beauties. The cane beds are definitely worth a try for largemouth bass. The past few trips, we’ve focused on the smallmouth fishing due to the outstanding numbers and average size that inhabit these waters. Top waters, jerk-baits and spinnerbaits are all you need. If you venture out of the Whalesback channel, the water becomes very clear, and that’s where jerkbaits, Ned rigs and drop shots can really shine.
