Big Bass Action at Historic Cutler Lake Lodge

This laid-back lodge near Massey, Ontario provides cozy, fully-equipped cabins and direct access to both Cutler Lake and Maple Lake.

Thanks to Mother Nature, on this trip, we didn’t have a lot of time to spend at this lodge, due to a major weather system coming in. However, from the time we pulled into Cutler Lake Lodge, until the time we left, the owners, Alex and Olga, impressed us with the work they have put into the cabins, the property and the hospitality they showed us!

Cozy Cabins and Lakeside Comfort

The original lodge was actually established in 1905! It is conveniently located minutes from the town of Massey, and with two moderate-sized lakes available to fish, Cutler Lake and Maple Lake.

This property has 8 rental cabins, situated on both lakes, and approximately 40 trailer sites. All of the cottages are powered by hydro and have all the comforts of home, including a fully equipped kitchen, electric fireplace, full 3-pc bathroom, a large fire pit and a screened-in porch or large deck and gazebo.

A Peaceful Base for Exploring Massey and Beyond

The property itself has a very laid-back, peacefulness to it. Cutler Lake Lodge has an on-site boat launch that can handle our Lund, which is always a plus! A rental fishing boat and a pontoon boat (Maple Lake only) are available, as well as paddle boards, canoes, and kayaks.

Two Lakes, Endless Fishing

As mentioned earlier, our fishing time was cut short, so we weren’t able to fish Maple Lake, but we spent the afternoon on Cutler Lake. We just fished the shoreline with everything from top water baits (the “Jowler”) and jerk baits (the “Maverick”), which caught us plenty of fish!

Now, we heard rumours that there were largemouth, but couldn’t find any proof…until we found a huge area of lily pads in the far end of the lake, which proved to be more than enough proof that yes, there is definitely a good population of largemouth, as well as the smallmouth, in this lake. Our biggest in both cases was well over 4 pounds. We didn’t have a chance to fish the walleye, panfish and pike, but Cutler has it all. If you enjoy fishing for whitefish, apparently Maple Lake has them as well.

I really wish we had more time to explore this little gem spanning both lakes, but I definitely will return to Cutler Lake Lodge the next time we are in the area.
