Coffee Shops in Northeastern Ontario

Sudbury & North Bay Coffee Shops

Kuppajo in Sudbury is my go-to for an oat milk cappuccino that hits just right. The vibe is so cozy, and one of the best cinnamon bun muffins I’ve ever had.

In North Bay, I’m obsessed with The Opera Bakery Cafe. I highly recommend stopping in for lunch, grabbing the sandwich and soup combo, and pairing it with your favourite way to drink coffee.

Twiggs Coffee Roasters has been a long-time local favourite. A handful of locations between North Bay and Sudbury offer a chance to grab a cup and settle in for a moment of people-watching or journaling, immersing yourself in the warmth of the local culture.

Highway 11 Corridor - Temiskaming Shores, Cobalt, Timmins & Kapuskasing

Chat Noir Books & Games in Temiskaming Shores has the best of both worlds: coffee and books! Order yourself a coffee ‘for here’, sit and relax and enjoy your newest novel.

As you drive up Highway 11 into Northeastern Ontario, there’s no shortage of charm. The Lavender Fox in Cobalt is a charming and whimsical tea room in the midst of an old mining town.

Timmins has Ciao Sandwich Co., where they are serving the freshest sandwiches on focaccia and offer a full espresso bar with all the seasonal favourites.

Further North, Back to the Grind in Kapuskasing is a classic, cute small-town café spot where you can just relax and enjoy a slow morning.

North Shore & Manitoulin Coffee Shops - Massey, Espanola, Providence Bay, Gore Bay & Little Current

The Little Brew, located just off the highway in Massey, offers Espanola Coffee Roasters' coffee, sandwiches, and treats. They have a fun little book nook area or play a board game with friends.

Over on Manitoulin Island, you can’t go wrong with any location of Loco Beanz—a long-time local favourite representing the island.

The Mutchmor and Peace Café is the perfect spot to grab a cup of coffee or a cold drink and enjoy the island’s famous Providence Bay Beach. Walk the boardwalk, or relax on a bench in the sunshine. Plus, the shop is a treasure trove of local and Canadian artists and artisans.

Algoma Country Coffee Shops

The Roasted Bean in Thessalon is a must-stop for coffee lovers. This cozy shop is filled with antique furniture and offers delicious sandwiches and festive flavours.  The Copper Bean in Bruce Mines is the sister company to The Roasted Bean, but with the cutest dog-friendly patio!

In Sault Ste. Marie, Kasdan Co is a modern cafe that bakes the freshest (and most fun) flavours of donuts!

Shabby Motley Handcraft is a cozy downtown café-meets-craft-studio where you can grab a coffee, enjoy something fresh from the kitchen, and browse yarns, wools, and handmade goods.

Then there’s the classic summer road trip stop at the The Voyageur Inn in Batchawana Bay. Grab a CAMP coffee, along with their famous apple fritters. They are honestly the size of your head!

Superior Country Coffee Shops

Starting in Nipigon, Love, Coffee is exactly what every traveller hopes to find. You can enjoy a quick to-go espresso or stay a while and order a specialty latte, you won’t be disappointed.

Marina Market Coffee House in Thunder Bay is located in a restored old CP Train Station, and it’s perfectly situated on the shores of Lake Superior. Grab your coffee and explore the waterfront. If you want more options, there are literally a handful of coffee shops all in a row!

Another favourite (and a great way to support a good cause) is The Habit Coffee & Bakeshop. Located in a converted old church, with volunteer-based staff, and all the proceeds go towards helping the community.

Silver Islet General Store is quaint, charming, and worth the stop. Located in an Instagram-worthy historic building, it offers a one-stop shop for everything (literally). They offer local artisan products, cute clothing, coffee bags, and ice cream. The best part is the charming Tea Room, which serves delicious coffee, pastries, and pizza!

Sunset Country Coffee Shops

Iron & Clay in Kenora is just the coziest little artsy spot. Good vibes and good beans with the friendliest staff.

The Hub Collective in Sioux Lookout is all about community vibes. Always a great place to pick up coffee, seasonal menus and excellent baked goods.

Turtle Island Café & Barbershop is Fort Frances’ newest spot for coffee, cuts, and community vibes. This Indigenous-owned space at 244 Scott Street blends the energy of a café with the soul of a barbershop, serving up fresh brews, good conversation, and locally made treats from Batter & Cream Baking Co. and Rainy Lake Micro Bakery.

Plan Your Northern Ontario Coffee Road Trip

Exploring coffee shops across Northern Ontario is one of the best ways to enhance your road trips. Giving you the chance to slow down, discover small towns you might’ve otherwise passed through, and meet the people who (literally) pour their heart into what they do.

Supporting local isn’t just about the coffee (though let’s be real, that’s a big part of it). It's also about you, the traveller, making a difference. So, what do you say we grab your favourite drink, hit the road, and start planning your next caffeine-fueled Northern Ontario adventure?
