Haunted Hallowe'en at Dynamic Earth
Pumpkinferno and the Tunnel of Terror are back and better than ever each weekend this October at Dynamic Earth!
One of the most popular Hallowe'en events in Northeastern Ontario has ramped it up this year by debuting a number of new and exciting activities that promise to be a big hit with the whole family.
Experience pumpkin carving on another level at Dynamic Earth, with over 5,000 hand-carved pumpkins on display at the Pumpkinferno. If you dare, venture into the Tunnel of Terror, Canada's only underground haunted house, seven storeys below the surface of the Earth!
Along with the classic Pumpkinferno and the Tunnel of Terror, there are lots of awesome family-friendly Hallowe'en activities throughout the weekend, included VR Hallowe'en Games, an inflatable maze, and an animated show projected onto the Big Nickel.
Plus, join the fun on October 27 from 7 pm to 8 pm for the KiSS 105.3 GREAT PUMPKINFERNOTM Costume Contest! Grand prize includes a Nintendo Switch console and a Science North Family Membership!
Pumpkinferno
Pumpkinferno is the glowing orange designs of faces, flames, animals, and more, depicted in thousands of hand-carved pumkins. Illuminating Dynamic Earth’s outdoor science park, there are multiple installations to walk through. Be sure to take a moment to gaze into the warm lights of each set to fully experience the intricate work of the young artists who contributed to this spectacle. Every pumpkin includes detail that shouldn’t be missed.
This fully accessible, self-guided, self-paced tour should take about 30 to 45 minutes and is open to adults and children from 7pm to 11pm on Friday and Saturday and then 7pm to 9pm on Sundays.
Here are some things that are new to Pumpkinfero this year!
- Ghost stories around the fire
- A giant tic-tac-toe
- Guided tours from staff mad scientists
tunnel of terror
Dynamic Earth’s Tunnel of Terror is open to thrill-seekers every Friday and Saturday from 5 pm - 11 pm, and Sunday from 5 pm - 9 pm this October. Canada’s only underground Hallowe'en experience is geared for fear at every turn. Recommended for ages 12 and up, you will not want to travel this nightmare alone.
The Tunnel of Terror is expanding this year with addition of the Friday Night Frights! This spin off of the Tunnel of Terror takes place every Friday at 8 pm, 9 pm, and 10 pm and sees the tunnel transform into a much scarier adventure. Imagine the monsters being turned up a notch and all aspects of the experience are even more terrifying.
Staff warns patrons that "the tunnel gets hair-raisingly scary as our monsters get a little unruly and very hands on... this experience is only for the brave!" As mentioned above, it is recommended that the minimum age for the normal Tunnel of Terror is 12 years old, but for the Friday Night Frights edition the recommended age is bumped up to 16 years old and children under 6 are not permitted.
New this year to the Tunnel of Terror:
- Friday Night Frights
- Find your way out of the bio-hazard infection zone underground!
family fun hallowe'en activities
Family fun activities include face painting, a giant inflatable from A Maze N Fun, VR Halloween games, and more fun for all ages!
There are also spooky live shows each night including animal and science shows. An even bigger show being presented at Dynamic Earth is the Big Nickel Hallowe'en Show. This show is an impressive animated Hallowe'en show that gets projected onto the iconic Big Nickel throughout the evening.
