Discover Terrace Suites in Callander, Ontario: Newly Renovated Lakeside Resort

From sand traps to stunning sunsets, this 84-acre resort near North Bay keeps Northern Ontario travellers coming back for more.
Terrace Suites Golf Course

Set on 84 acres in Callander, Ontario, the newly renovated Terrace Suites blends modern comfort with Northeastern Ontario’s outdoorsy spirit. Just minutes from the city of North Bay, the resort offers 35 rooms, a tricky 18-hole golf course, and access to year-round activities, making it a favourite base for travellers chasing both relaxation and adventure.

At first glance, the golf course looks modest. In reality, it’s a little beast—more than one guest has spent most of their round in sand traps or ponds. That playful trickiness shows up elsewhere too: rustic-modern suites that feel bigger than expected, and a lakeside cottage so private it might as well be its own island. Terrace Suites has a way of keeping visitors on their toes.

Terrace Suites: A Lakeside Gem in Callander

When local entrepreneur Jimmy Kolios bought the shuttered resort in 2016, he saw more than a rundown property. “It wasn’t operational at that point, but what an amazing location. It’s a beautiful chunk of land,” says Jimmy. “Callander is a wonderful town of warm, friendly people, and I wanted to be able to offer them something they could be proud of.” A year later, after major renovations, Terrace Suites reopened with fresh energy. Today, it feels both modern and unmistakably northern, where mornings start with coffee on the balcony and nights end by the fire pit under a sky full of stars.

The resort’s 35 rooms are styled in what the owners call “rustic modern.” Think: Canadiana artwork of canoes and forests, fresh linens, smart TVs, and in some rooms, cozy electric fireplaces that glow at night. Everything is designed for comfort and convenience— self-controlled climate, work desks, microwaves, mini fridges, and complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi that actually works (they just had the entire system replaced so it’s stable, even on windy days).

Guests can choose from king suites, jacuzzi suites, double deluxe rooms, or accessible ground-floor units. Upstairs, lake- and golf-course views stretch across the property. “It feels modern, but it’s also very Canadian, very woodsy,” says business manager Brittany Peddle. Toiletries are eco-friendly, sourced from the BeeKind line.

Terrace Cottage and Long-Stay Apartments Near North Bay

One of the most charming additions is Terrace Cottage, just across the road. “It’s so cute!” says Brittany. With two bedrooms, a private beach, and a huge dock, it’s become a favourite for families, couples, and anyone who loves the water. “The way it’s situated, it’s almost like a little peninsula—you don’t have any neighbours. It’s very private.” Guests sip coffee as the sun rises, fish off the dock in the afternoon, and paddle out for sunset.

For longer stays, a house behind the main resort was recently renovated into one- and two-bedroom apartments. These are perfect for film crews, construction workers, or visitors needing a place for weeks or months. “It sucks to live in a hotel room for three, six, nine months,” she says. “This way, people have space to cook, relax, and feel at home.” There are also additional studio and one-bedroom apartments available right in Callander.

Golfing in North Bay at Terrace Suites Resort

Golfing at Terrace Suites Resort is anything but ordinary. Designed by Carrick Designs, this 18-hole, par-54 course challenges players to sharpen their short game across rolling hills, ravines, ponds, and even an island green. Environmentally friendly practices keep the course pesticide-free and sustainably watered.

The course itself remains a local talking point. It’s compact, but famously tricky. “Most people spend their game in a sand trap or a pond,” says Brittany, laughing. Open from spring through fall, the season stretches as long as the weather allows. In good years, golfers are still playing in October under crisp double-digit sunshine; in bad years, snow and rain cut things short.

Resort visitors can take advantage of stay-and-play packages or enjoy discounted rounds, making Terrace Suites a memorable place to tee off in Northern Ontario.

Amenities and Comforts

Small touches make the stay easy. Every room comes stocked with glassware, dishes, cutlery, and eco-friendly BeeKind toiletries. Wi-Fi and smart TVs keep business travellers connected, while electric fireplaces add a cozy, woodsy vibe for couples looking to relax. Guests rave about the fire pit at the resort, where evenings often stretch late into the night, swapping stories under clear skies.

The owners aren’t slowing down. Plans are in motion for a new building with 40 high-end luxury suites, a thermal spa, and a café. Once that’s complete, Terrace Suites will pursue official luxury certifications to match the elevated experience.

Things to Do Around Terrace Suites in Callander and North Bay

Part of the appeal of Terrace Suites is its location: quiet and peaceful, yet close to everything. Callander’s shops and cafes are five minutes away, while downtown North Bay is a 15-minute drive. Two ski hills–Laurentian and Antoine Mountain–are nearby, and in summer the lake draws boaters, paddlers, and anglers.

Snowmobilers also love it here. The OFSC trails don’t come right to the property, but they’re less than ten minutes away. Guests often ride to Churchill’s, a restaurant also owned by the same family. “You can almost snowmobile from Terrace to Churchill’s. Or if you’re willing to take the lake, you can go straight across.”

Why Stay at Terrace Suites in Callander, Ontario

So what does it feel like to stay here? Guests describe it as relaxed, comfortable, and easy, an experience that balances the cozy appeal of Northeastern Ontario with modern conveniences. The cottage is private and picturesque, the resort rooms are reliable and fresh, and the property as a whole offers something you can’t always find: space to breathe, whether that means working remotely with strong Wi-Fi, watching the stars by the fire, or waking up to a sunrise over the lake.

As Jimmy put it, “The Greater North Bay area is an undiscovered diamond. We want people to realize just how amazing and beautiful it is.”
