Meet the Founders: Shana and Ryan
Forest the Canoe is run by Shana Shipperbottom and Ryan Walker, who wanted to “live a more nature-based lifestyle and create a way to share their passion and love for the outdoors”. They’re both trained interpretive guides, experienced backcountry campers, and have backgrounds working in social services and adult education, making them accessible and informative for all participants. Whatever your group's needs and interests are, they’ve got you covered!
Ideal for Solo Wanderers, Couples, and Families
No experience in the bush? No problem. Forest the Canoe welcomes beginners and seasoned outdoorspeople alike. Whether you’re seeking a deeply personal retreat, a romantic getaway, or a family adventure with purpose, their experiences are as adaptable as they are enriching.

A Journey Through Ontario’s Ancient Forests
Guides share insight into local plants, animals, and ecosystems, often pausing to highlight teachings from the land. Whether you’re gliding along the Goulais River, trekking ancient trapline trails, or stopping at a lookout to sip cedar tea, the experience is carefully curated to foster respect, relationship, and reciprocity.

Many travellers say the quiet moments—when the paddle rests on your lap and the only sound is wind in the birch trees—are what stay with them long after the trip ends.
