Land A Lake Superior Salmon

Test your fishing skills on the world’s largest freshwater lake.

The temperatures are usually hot on a visit to Thunder Bay in July, so there is no better place to be but on the waters of Lake Superior, taking in the Thunder Bay Salmon Association’s Salmon Fun Derby.

This year’s event is three days running Friday July 15 to Sunday July 17. The Pearl Street boat launch at Marina Park is expected to be a hub of activity as the main launch for anglers looking to put their boats in the water.

The derby is the perfect opportunity to test your fishing skills on the world’s largest fresh water lake and take in one of the biggest fishing derbies in Northwest Ontario.

The derby is once again sponsored by Woody’s Trailer World and boat manufacture, Princecraft. Visitors and friends coming to Thunder Bay are invited to join local anglers for this exciting summer event and see first-hand what Lake Superior has to offer as an excellent fishery.

Get Your Tickets!

All you need is a ticket to enter the derby for a chance to win a number of the fabulous prizes up for grabs valued at over $25,000 in cash and merchandise. The top cash prize is $3,500 along with category prizes for ladies and juniors. You don’t have to catch the biggest salmon to win as there are numerous mystery and draw prizes to be won throughout the week, so everyone who has a ticket has a 1-in-5 chance in winning. There will be draws each day of the derby.

Tickets are available from local businesses that sponsor the derby. Tickets prices for adults are $50 with junior tickets $25. The prize presentations will held at Woody's Trail World at the windup on July 17.

Boat Access to Lake Superior

Bring your boat and put into Lake Superior from one of 11 boat launches in the Thunder Bay area from the Sibley Peninsula to the Pigeon River border. The marina at Prince Arthur’s Landing is sure to be one of more popular boat launch sites. The launch is located off the Pearl St. entrance with dedicated parking for boaters at site.

Out-of-town Visitors Welcome

Come to visit Thunder Bay and fish during the week or on the weekends of the derby. Archie's Fishing Charters operates out of the marina at Prince Arthur's Landing for those looking for guided fishing service. If you need a place to stay, the Days Inn & Suites is the official hotel for the derby and offers derby participants a special rate. Call 807-622-3297 to book your room.

Fundraiser for Salmon Association

The Thunder Bay Salmon Association was founded to raise salmon in the Association’s volunteer hatchery and to encourage and promote the sport of salmon fishing. This “week long” derby is both a fundraiser for the hatchery and an opportunity get out on Lake Superior and experience the thrill of catching a salmon. Everyone is invited to participate in a fun derby and have an opportunity to win one of many great prizes.
