Soo Mrkt Farmers Market: Thriving Local Hub for Fresh Ontario Produce & Artisan Goods
The Soo Mrkt Farmers’ Market is firmly rooted in its bright, renovated Brock Street location in downtown Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. It’s become a vibrant community hub where locals and visitors alike gather to shop, eat, and connect. The market, part of the bustling Downtown Plaza and the city’s revitalization effort, features up to 41 vendors weekly, with additional sellers in nearby mobile retail units.
Managed by a dedicated team and governed by both vendors and community members, Soo Mrkt offers fresh, locally sourced products—from farmers, ranchers, fishers, and nursery growers to talented artisans and prepared food vendors—all proudly Ontario-made and compliant with Algoma Public Health Unit standards.
Fresh, Local, and Ontario-Grown: What to Expect
Soo Mrkt Farmers Market is a non-profit organization governed by the vendors as well as members of the larger community. The market features up to 41 vendors weekly throughout the season. Additional vendors can be found in mobile retail units in the vicinity of the market building. Along with primary producers (farmers, ranchers, fishers, and nursery growers), there are also crafters and artisans, as well as prepared food vendors.
Market Manager Robert Pryor highlights the wide-reaching vendor network spanning the Algoma District—from Prince Township to St. Joseph Island, Echo Bay, Desbarats, and Thessalon—showcasing the region’s nearly year-round local food thanks to innovative growing techniques like greenhouses and crop covers.
There are strict criteria for farm vendors at the market, with the main requirement that food must sourced within Ontario. In fact, most of the food is grown and produced right here in Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma, as it’s too expensive to transport it from Southern Ontario. Vendors sell their products or will sell for their farm neighbours, with clear signage indicating where it is from. Farmers are also happy to share the growing practices of their farms – just another reason to buy locally!
Artisans, Souvenirs & Market Eats
With spacious entrances on Brock Street and the Plaza side, plenty of parking nearby, and proximity to the Algoma Farmers’ Market, Soo Mrkt is the perfect spot for a Saturday outing—whether you’re after fresh produce, handcrafted treasures, or a tasty meal. The market’s mantra, “Community grown and made with love,” shines through in its welcoming vibe and the passion of its vendors, making it a must-visit summer destination in Sault Ste. Marie.
“Our new location means we have a much brighter and more comfortable environment for our customers to shop and for our vendors to sell their goods," says Bob. Tourists are welcome to come and experience the Soo Mrkt and pick up a special handcrafted item to bring home or just grab lunch.
The vendors and its welcoming atmosphere make it a pleasure to shop at this market.

Payment & What to Bring
Vendors at the Soo MRKT operate independently, meaning accepted payment methods can vary from booth to booth. Many farmers, bakeries, and artisans accept credit and debit cards, but carrying some cash is always recommended—especially for smaller farm purchases, quick snack pulls, or seasonal pop-up vendors.
