Georgian Bay Salmon and Trout Excursions

Guided Fishing and Beer Bus Tours in Southern Georgian Bay

My bucket list is getting full! I finally experienced the addictive rush of catching the hard-fighting and incredible-tasting Georgian Bay salmon and trout this past summer from Collingwood Harbour.

This entire trip was planned and organized by the folks at OSM Adventure Travel, Kevin Johnston, whose aim is to inspire and challenge aspiring adventurers by providing skill-based opportunities that build confidence to organize their own outdoor pursuits with the help of expert guides and instructors. They offer Backcountry skills clinics, bushcraft and axe skills, shore river fishing, guided ice fishing trips, mentor and guided expeditions in canoes and of course the Collingwood Adventure Voyages on Georgian Bay for salmon, rainbow and lake trout as well as northern pike.

Our trip included a unique beer bus tour of the local Collingwood breweries sample excursion that was planned perfectly by the hosts of our trip and the Georgian Bay Hotel, a Wyndham hotel near Blue Mountain which is an all-season retreat that puts you in a great position to explore everything the Georgian Bay area has to offer including excellent salmon and trout fishing on the bay.

The friendly hosts of OSM Adventures combine the best that Georgian Bay has to offer with a sunset & fishing cruise. Guests bring the whole group aboard and watch the sunset while reeling in salmon and trout located in the local waters of Collingwood Harbour. This tour includes all the equipment needed for fishing and they have lots of room for you to bring food aboard!

They offer fishing charters between two to six hours for up to eight people at one time. They have the right boat!

What makes their boat “Solidsteel” one of the best charter vessels in Collingwood Harbour you ask? The answer is simple - space, cleanliness and comfort. With the largest fighting deck of any boat in Collingwood Harbour, Solidsteel is one formidable charter boat. She handles the water smoothly and is a perfect boat for their waters in Southern Georgian Bay. Always clean and with comfortable additions like the onboard washroom, fridge, stove, music, covered top, full deck lighting and more... there just isn’t anything that compares.

No Experience... No problem!

The expert guides are there for you every step of the way. The charters are as active or casual as you like - they want you to become part of the crew aboard Solidsteel and get involved.

They have all the right gear.

All of the fishing equipment is maintained and is of high quality. Depending on the time of season and species of fish they are hunting drastically changes the style of angling, and they have all the toys to deploy an arsenal at our prey. From Downrigging, Dipsy Divers, Plane Boards and Flat line trolling - they have everything under the sun aboard and it’s all at your disposal!

And talk about catering to the customer, after a wonderful excursion Captain Kevin and the gracious hosts and chef at the Georgian Bay Hotel treated us to a lunch of freshly caught Georgian Bay salmon in Gustav Chophouse and bar located in the lobby of the hotel which was absolutely incredible.

This was one getaway package that truly filled the bucket list.

From the hard fighting salmon and trout to the wonderful scenic views of a Georgian Bay sunrise and the laid-back atmosphere of bobbing on the bay while returning to the spa and pool area of the hotel, not to mention the carefully developed menu at Gustav’s chophouse which relies on local farmers and community for unsurpassed cuisine.

About Karl Kalonka

It's possible Karl's love for fishing began as early as the age of five. His parents took the kids on weekend trips across Ontario fishing for panfish, catfish, and bass. "I started with a bobber and worm from the time I was five years old," says Karl. These days, he has the enviable task of doing what he loves for a living, travelling across Ontario fishing, filming and producing two outdoor series, Extreme Angler and Crappie Angler TV.
