North Bay offers something many larger cities cannot: balance. It’s a blend of cottage life and city amenities, and it doesn’t take long to notice. Delegates can sit through a full morning of sessions, then be fishing, hiking, or out on a restaurant patio by early afternoon. It's a destination where a networking reception can happen just as easily at the Bandshell overlooking the water as in a hotel ballroom. North Bay Jack Garland Airport (YYB) offers daily commercial flights, plus twice-weekly WestJet service direct from Calgary, and the city sits at the junction of Highways 11 and 17, roughly three and a half hours from Toronto and four hours from Ottawa by road. Ontario Northland's bus network connects North Bay with communities across the province.

Mid-size events (up to 300) step up at Shadfly House, a renovated historic downtown building with exposed brick and 25-foot ceilings, certified for up to 295 and comfortable at 160 to 180 for a seated event. The Capitol Centre, Canadore College's conference facilities, Nipissing University's meeting spaces, the Elks Lodge, and The Davedi Club round out this tier.
Larger events (300-plus) work well at the Best Western's Regency Ballroom (up to 350 theatre-style, 260 for a seated banquet), the Nipissing University Student Centre (up to 700 standing), and Canadore College's Aviation Campus, which has hosted groups up to 700.
Reliable connectivity is standard across North Bay's major hotels and venues. The city sits on a major fibre-optic route linking Northern Ontario to the rest of the province, so dependable Wi-Fi and hybrid-meeting support are the baseline. Catering blends locally inspired menus with international flavours, craft breweries, and waterfront dining, with dietary accommodation built in. Few conference destinations can put a reception on the water the way North Bay can. A private charter aboard the Chief Commanda II turns a networking session into a cruise across Lake Nipissing, the third-largest lake located entirely within Ontario. Charters hold up to 300 guests, and it's the kind of setting that turns a routine reception into a relaxing and memorable one.
North Bay's culinary scene has evolved into something impressive and diverse, with locally inspired menus, international flavours, and a strong craft brewery culture giving delegates great dining options a short distance from most major venues.
The Block Public House serves elevated comfort food in a lively room, while Churchill's Prime Rib House brings a classic steakhouse feel that's well suited to a client dinner.
The Boat puts delegates right on a waterfront patio overlooking Lake Nipissing, and La Casa De Maria pairs locally inspired dishes with an extensive craft beverage selection.
Cecil's Brewhouse & Kitchen rounds things out with house-brewed beer and an easy, casual room for networking after hours. Average Joe’s offers a beautiful patio right on Trout Lake for something more relaxed.
North Bay has plenty to offer beyond the meeting room, from quiet walks to hands-on team-building.
A sunset walk along the marina is an easy way to close out the day, and it's a big draw for photography too, with Kate Pace Way's cycling and walking paths running right along the waterfront. The Boathouse Rental Co. rents kayaks, paddleboards, and bikes right from the downtown waterfront, an easy way to get out on the water (or along it) between or after sessions. Duchesnay Falls and Laurier Woods offer proper hiking within a short drive, and the Heritage Railway & Carousel, along with a stretch of downtown shopping, makes for an easy, lower-key afternoon.
For a stand-out group activity option: MASHinery has delegates take turns behind the controls of real excavators, bulldozers, and skid steers, working through hands-on challenges (digging, lifting, even smashing a car) under the guidance of a trained instructor, while the rest of the group watches and cheers from a viewing deck. It's the only attraction of its kind in Canada, and custom corporate packages make it an easy, unique and memorable add-on to any event.
Delegates looking to extend their trip will find plenty close by: Lake Nipissing is a huge draw for anglers, and a day trip out to Callander or around the Lake Nipissing Loop rounds out a longer stay.
North Bay has hosted everything from national curling championships to youth robotics competitions, building a reputation as a destination that delivers great results. The city welcomed the 2018 World Women's Curling Championship and the 2022 Boost National Pinty's Grand Slam of Curling—two of the sport's biggest events on Canadian soil. North Bay also hosts the Ontario Enduro Series, including the series' own Provincial Championships round, and is the host community for the 2027 Special Olympics Ontario Provincial Winter Games.
The FIRST North Bay Robotics competition has also called the city home. Don McGrath, the tournament's director, put it this way: "Tourism North Bay has been a valuable partner with the FIRST North Bay Robotics competition for the past two years. Funding provided by their organization enabled our event to provide a top-notch experience for our visiting teams. By sharing and promoting their hospitality partners with our attendees, the process of booking hotel and restaurant reservations was streamlined."
Bonnie Zufelt, President of the Eastern Ontario Valley National 8-Ball Association, has brought her organization's provincial championships—drawing more than 400 players—back to North Bay for ten straight years: "We are so fortunate to have the support from Tourism North Bay, allowing us to showcase our beautiful city...We continue to host this event year after year in North Bay due to the great partnership we have with them."
