Ontario is home to the largest number of Indigenous Peoples in Canada and more remote First Nations than any other part of the country. Indigenous people have lived on this land for thousands of years. In fact, the word "Ontario" comes from the Iroquois word kanadario, meaning sparkling or beautiful water.
