BOREAL WINERIES

Three Cows and a Cone.

THORNLOE CHEESE

Does it get any better than fresh cheese curds?

Taste: Sample a variety of exceptional cheeses from sharp Canadian cheddar to squeaky cheese curds at Thornloe Cheese in Thornloe, just north of Temiskaming Shores. Thornloe Cheese has produced superior quality cheese products in Northern Ontario for over 71 years. Their secret to success is old-fashioned cheese making techniques and locally produced fresh milk products.

Do: Visit their headquarters and cheese shop for a sampling of their fine cheeses or visit their website for a retailer near you.

Find the perfect accomodations for your trip to the Temiskaming Shores area!

FARMER’S MARKETS

Farmer's markets offer a selection of handmade and local goodies to choose from.

Taste: Sink your teeth into organic vegetables, fruits and berries grown locally in Northeastern Ontario. Every month of the season offers a fresh new crop of mouth watering local fare and every area of the region offers unique local products, such as handmade soaps and candles, or Hawberry Jelly on Manitoulin Island.

HONEY

There are so many uses for honey, but the best way is to keep it simple.

Taste: Indulge in sweet, organically produced and unpasteurized honey from Bees and Berry Farms in Timmins– the official beekeeper of Goldcorp. With three bee yards containing a total of 50 hives, Bees and Berry Farms produces roughly 1 tonne of honey each year.

Do: Visit Bees and Berry Farms or a local farmer’s market to purchase this naturally sweet treat.

BLUEBERRIES

A Northern Ontario specialty!

Taste: See why we go wild in Northeastern Ontario for blueberries. Wild blueberries, which grow most plentifully in the sandy and mossy areas surrounding Greater Sudbury are a plump, sweet and antioxidant rich treat! It’s not unusual to see parked cars linking the shoulders of roads and highways where local pickers have gone in search of the filling for their next pie.

Do: During the months of July and August, visit a local roadside vendor, a local farmer’s market or a grocer for your very own basket. For the adventurous, you may find bright blue bushes of the little gems while enjoying a woodland hike – bring a container to collect your findings or just a healthy appetite.

MAPLE SYRUP

There is no more of an authentic Canadian experience than eating maple toffee candy, straight off the snow.

Taste: Maple syrup in its truest form and every form in between - liquid, spread, candy, toffee or frozen. There’s no more authentic experience than a maple toffee sucker fresh off a trough of snow.

Do: Visit a sugar shack in Northeastern Ontario in early spring and take a tour of the on-site sugar bush to learn about the tapping process. We'll start you off with two options for the North Bay area:

Sucrerie Seguin Sugarbush
Lavigne, ON
705-594-1087
