Get Hooked on Ice Fishing

Lake Superior's North Shore offers Ice Fishing that is Second to None

Visit the Nipigon-Red Rock area this winter and find out why there is no better place for ice fishing than Northwest Ontario.

Ice fishing along the North Shore of Lake Superior is an exhilarating winter activity to enjoy. The serene Lake Superior bays in the Red Rock and Nipigon area offer solitude and a peaceful spot to jig for your big winter catch. The extraordinary scenery of Nipigon Bay, Black Bay and Gravel River are second to none and are part of the purposed Lake Superior National Marine Conservation Area managed by Parks Canada.

If a full service ice fishing experience is appealing to you, you may be interested in contacting one of the local outfitters. There are a couple of choices if you are looking to rent ice huts in the Red Rock/Nipigon area.

Hamilton Baits on Black Bay rents fully equipped ice huts; these huts include a cook stove, a wood stove and cooking utensils and all the propane and wood is provided.

Ray and Betty Laukkanen operate Gravel River Ice Hut Rentals and offer two day ice fishing packages. For more information on these operators and more invigorating winter experiences in Northern Ontario check out VisitNorthwestOntario.com.
