13 Snowmobile-Friendly Places to Stay

Anyone who's been on a multi-day trip knows the importance of staying with people who understand the needs of the weary sledder.

Every season us snowmobilers plan at least one overnight trip. We trailer to a new destination, explore unforgettable trails; we flock to those communities that welcome us with open arms. We are lucky to have border-to-border snowmobile options that include both trail features and ride-to services. Best of all, each destination connects to another through our 32,000km of OFSC trails.

When you're deciding on a place to stay, it's reassuring to know that it's truly snowmobile friendly. There are many places that call themselves snowmobile friendly, and they are probably great options, but for me it's these 16 that really stand out against all the others. Each one listed below goes the extra mile to welcome snowmobilers, ensuring that we have the best experience possible. And that, my fellow riders, is worth a lot!

1 - Relais-Magpie-Relay Resort

magpie relay

Dubreuilville Ontario's Relais-Magpie-Relay pulls out all the stops to welcome snowmobilers—indoor heated garage, plenty of parking and directly on the trail. This motorsports resort is positioned smack dab in the middle of some of the best on- and off-trail riding to be found. The heated garage, hot tub and hearty food make this a must-visit destination.

2 - Clarion Resort Pinewood Park

Outdoor Heated Pool, need i say more? Have you tried the prime rib? Did I mention fireplaces in the large modern rooms and secure locked sled parking? The Clarion Resort Pinewood Park is located on the outskirts of the City of North Bay and has a long history of accommodating snowmobilers. It's a great staging location for heading further north, as well as one of my favorite places to relax after a long day's ride.

3 - Cedar Meadows Resort and Spa

gold rush 3

Moose, Elk & Bison, comfy rooms, a spa with Nordic baths and first-class gourmet dining in the Voyageur Dining Room, Cedar Meadows is a truly unique destination for snowmobilers. It's nestled right in the heart of the City of Timmins and directly on the trail. To enhance the experience even more, Cedar Meadows is hard at work on the “Moose River”, a 500-metre long man-made river which, when complete, will offer ice skating in the winter months and tubes/swan boat rides in the summer. This place has it all and offers a great experience for the entire family.

4 - Sportsman's Inn

The Inn's slogan is “let us fuel your passion for an outdoor journey, while you enjoy the ride.” George and the Sportsman's Inn team cater directly to outdoors and motorsports lovers in the Sudbury area year round. All accommodations include dinner and breakfast in the two-level 4,000-square foot dining area. Expect home-made breads, the finest ingredients, and a smooth ride in any direction from the Inn.

5 - JW Marriot The Rosseau Muskoka

Class, fireplaces, and dreamy scenery both inside and out, the JW is the definition of hospitality. Set in the Explorers' Edge region, this resort is ranked #7 of the top 20 in Canada by Conde Nast readers. The JW's two restaurants both boast wine excellence awards, which complement delicious Italian cuisine at the Teca restaurant or certified Angus beef at the Muskoka Chophouse. If you're looking to pair world-class trails with world-class hospitality, this is the place for you.

6 - Mattawa Adventure Camp

Mattawa adventure camp

Located on the shores of the upper Ottawa River, just outside of the Town of Mattawa, the Mattawa Adventure Camp offers a experience to remember. You'll find cozy, camp-like cabins complete with wood stoves and comfy layouts paired with warm, longtime-friend-like hospitality, and three-course dinners that level up what you thought a home-cooked meal was. There's a reason why MAC has five stars on TripAdvisor.

7 - Holiday Inn New Liskeard

The Holiday Inn New Liskeard has quickly become the go-to destination for riders looking to adventure further north and log serious seat time on their sleds. The hotel allows guests to stage and leave vehicles in their spacious parking lot while they adventure to other on-trail destinations (though you must be a guest). The entire building is brand new, with an indoor pool and a hot tub that is truly relaxing. Plus, each overnight stay comes with a whole host of delicious options at the continental breakfast.

8 - Spectacle Lake Lodge

There's something special about being able to ride up to your cabin and park right at your front door—especially when completing Ontario's granddaddy tour, the Round Algonquin Park Tour. The Spectacle Lake team is in fact partially responsible for the creation of the RAP tour, having been a part of the founding group. Quality, comfortable, welcoming and knowledgeable is what this lodge is all about. Did I mention that fuel is available right on site at the lodge!?

9 - Best Western White Swan Castle Cochrane

#1 TripAdvisor Ranking user “Snowdepth” of Orangeville wrote: “Excellent place to start and end your trip. Restaurants very close within walking distance. Lots of parking and electrical hook ups for block heaters so bring an extension cord. Easy access to trail right in front of hotel." All of this and more makes the Best Western Swan Castle a great place to lodge while in Cochrane. 10 - Wawa Motor Inn

The perfect stop for anyone making their way from Searchmont up to Dubreuilville now has even more! Wawa has become a must-ride destination for boondockers. Check out the Top Secret Boondocking challenge—with these three riding areas, you will explore wooded valleys, climb gnarly hills and navigate pole lines before heading back to the Wawa Motor Inn for dinner at the Fireside Lounge. With two 27-foot fireplaces in the dining room, you'll be warmed up and dry in no time!

11 - Halfway Haven

Located on the D Trail 150 km north of Searchmont, this full-service lodge is the only refuge from the expansive wilderness that surrounds it. Even though you can see the middle of nowhere from Halfway Haven, they have all the amenities needed including gasoline and a full restaurant. It's another 115 km north to Wawa making Halfway Haven critical to being able to complete this journey without carrying extra fuel. There's tons to explore around the lodge. You won't regret spending a day or two here or riding to here for a night.

12 - Couples Resort

The Family Day long weekend includes Valentines Day and the Couples Resort is the place to visit whether your partner is a snowmobile enthusiast or not. The resort has so much to offer inside and out including snowmobile rentals and tours from Back Country Tours. It's located at the south end of Algonquin Park, right on the trail.

13 - Silver sand Resort

You will find Silver Sand in Kearney, one of the most scenic and enjoyable riding areas in the province. Located on Sand Lake and surrounded by both local and TOP trails, there are riding loops in every direction. Reserve a cottage for a few days this winter and get out and explore.

The clock is ticking and winter is fast approaching; the places listed will be filled with fellow riders, which makes the experience that much better as there's nothing like a parking lot filled with trucks, trailers and sleds! So call one of these 16 places now and book a snowmobile experience you will never forget!
