World Class Bass and So Much More

Hunting for big bass in Algoma, Ontario.

I love fishing for bass. Big bass. Lots of big bass and especially bad attitude, very big brown, smallmouth bass.

The kind of bass that spend more time jumping, running and splashing than actually swimming!

Who doesn’t love smallmouth bass fishing? Where do I fish for these big bad smallmouth bass in Ontario?

Ontario is blessed with thousands of lakes and rivers that harbour smallmouth bass and with the extended seasons in Northern Ontario it is very hard to beat the amazing bass fishing opportunities in Algoma Country.

Combined with the wide range of locations that have these hard fighting finned critters, it is the pristine, wilderness settings and lack of angling pressure that allows these bass to grow to enormous weights and a chance to catch a ‘personal best’ every season brings me back to Algoma year after year, spring summer and fall.

This Northern region of Ontario is affectionately called the “highway of bass” or “world-class bass” for the countless locations that harbour these big brown fish and the many lodge operators that cater to bass fishermen and friends who plan vacations to Algoma year after year to experience the incredible fishing and memory making adventures that last a lifetime.

Sure, I love catching bass, but it’s the “off the water” time that is also important when I choose locations or mini-vacations with buddies who just want to experience all the adventures this region has to offer serious bass fishermen like us.

A comfortable bed, a cabin with a view, pristine surroundings and only the sounds of nature when I’m grilling on the barbeque and soaking up the sights and sounds of a fantastic road trip with family or friends.

Why do I call Algoma Country the region of “world-class bass”? On any given cast or hookset, I could potentially catch the biggest smallmouth bass of my life.

You never know when fishing the waters of Algoma, it really is that good.

As for numbers of bass?

A lot of the lakes and rivers in this region can honestly boast of 50 - 100 smallmouth bass days during the peak seasons, spring, summer or fall, it doesn’t seem to matter what month it is, spring time offers a catch and release season with giant fish shallow, summer time is awesome when the topwater bite is at its peak and Fall is when the big brown bass put on the feed bag prior to winter and gang up in schools of four to six-pound fish literally cast after cast on some occasions.
