Just sit back and take it all in as the beauty of nature unfolds before your very eyes. There's only one word that can describe it: breathtaking.

All aboard one of the most popular train tours in North America. Let the railway transport you 114 miles north of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Through the large windows of the newly refurbished coaches see towering trestles, pristine northern lakes and rivers, awesome granite rock formations and vast mixed forests of the Canadian Shield. This is the landscape that inspired the Group of Seven to create some of Canada’s most notable landscape art.

A GPS triggered commentary, available in five languages, informs you about upcoming points of interest. Sit back and learn of the rich history of the region with stories of the Ojibway, fur traders, explorers and entrepreneurs who opened up this vast wilderness and called it home.

Over the next 10 miles, the Tour Train drops elevation almost 500 feet to the floor of the Agawa Canyon. The canyon was created over 1.2 billion years ago by faulting and widened and reshaped by the last ice-age 10,000 years ago.

As the train pulls to a stop at Agawa Canyon, you will have an hour and a half to experience the Canyon Park up close. Everyone can enjoy scenic walks on trails leading to several waterfalls, get adventurous and climb some 300 stairs to the breathtaking lookout sitting 250 feet above the canyon floor, or just pull up a bench and relax taking in the Agawa River and scenic beauty.

The first picnic areas were cleared in Agawa Canyon in 1952 and it quickly became a popular spot for day-trip travellers. In 1972, the Railway started to operate the dedicated Agawa Canyon Tour Train. From 1952 to 2012 the Agawa Canyon Tour Train has carried over 3,340,380 passengers to Agawa Canyon.
