Love the idea of remote fly-in fishing in Ontario, but hoping for a few added comforts at the end of the day?
Sunset Country has so many lakes that there is no shortage of lodging options. Drive-in cabin rentals, fly-in outposts, full-service American Plan lodges, campgrounds and more. Whatever accommodation you are looking for, there is an option for you.
Why Some Anglers Prefer Fly-In Cabins with Modern Amenities
For many anglers, the charm of a traditional fly-in outpost lies in its simplicity—unplugged cabins, quiet shorelines and a focus purely on fishing and time together. Others appreciate having a few additional conveniences after a long day on the water. In Sunset Country, there’s room for both experiences.
Speaking to anglers at sports shows, people ask for all sorts of options. One of the requests we get is for fly-in outpost cabins with additional amenities. While everyone is at an outpost for the fishing and solitude, some want more amenities in the cabins. This article highlights fly-in outposts that offer expanded amenities and added comforts.
What is a Fly-in Outpost?
Picture this: you and your buddies or family hop on a floatplane with your gear, take off on the water and fly into a remote wilderness lake that is not accessible by car. Most times, you are the only cabin on the lake. The pilot lands on the water and drops you off for the most relaxing, fish-filled week of your life!
It goes without saying that the fishing at a fly-in outpost is fantastic all season. Many of these lakes host only a limited number of groups each season. That means minimal fishing pressure and exceptional angling opportunities throughout the season.
What Amenities Can You Expect at a Comfort-Focused Fly-In in Sunset Country?
While every outpost is different, some fly-in cabins in Sunset Country offer enhanced amenities designed to provide added convenience while maintaining the remote wilderness experience. These may include:
- Indoor plumbing, including hot showers and flush toilets
- Larger kitchens and expanded living areas
- Solar or generator power systems
- Wi-Fi or Starlink at select locations
