Family-Friendly RV Campgrounds in Northern Ontario
If you and your kinfolk are looking for the ultimate kid-friendly RV adventure, look no further than Northern Ontario.
Having camped extensively in Ontario and the rest of Canada as a kid myself, I understand firsthand the thrill and excitement as a young camper, as well as a few things to watch for as an adult RV enthusiast. The first RV camping I did with my kids when they were little was at the KOA Renfrew, which was chosen for several reasons. Just an hour from home, at a campground with all the amenities, and most importantly, plenty of fun things for my daughters to do. It was an ideal spot for a first-time RV camping with kids.
Take a ride with us as we head off in search of the best RV campgrounds for your kids, and trust me, Northern Ontario has some fabulous choices.
5 Best RV Campgrounds for Kids
Barrie KOA Holiday

Our first RV campground stop as we head from Toronto into Ontario's north, is a campground tailor-made for kids—the Barrie KOA Holiday. This family-friendly campground offers kids the fun of two large heated pools, gemstone mining, a games room, volleyball/basketball courts, wagon rides, pancake breakfasts, movie nights and even pizza delivery. As one reviewer wrote, “My kids never wanted to leave”. Parents will appreciate the deluxe RV Sites equipped with concrete pads, landscaped patios, and 30–50-amp service. All this with pull-thru and back-in sites, makes Barrie KOA Holiday an ideal place for rigs of all sizes.
You'll notice that KOA campgrounds feature prominently on this list. In general, they're an ideal kid-friendly option, combining the fun of the outdoors with family-friendly amenities and organized activities. Most KOAs offer features that cater specifically to kids, including playgrounds, splash pads, swimming pools, and jumping pillows. These safe, designated play areas allow children to burn off energy while parents relax nearby. In addition to recreational features, these campgrounds run scheduled events like scavenger hunts, outdoor movie nights, crafts, and themed weekends, creating an engaging environment for young campers.
Parry Sound KOA Campground

The Parry Sound KOA Holiday is the perfect kid-friendly RV Campground with a welcoming family atmosphere and friendly staff. This KOA offers nature games and activities for kids, where staff organizes scavenger hunts, themed events, and community involvement. This location also offers great water access & recreation nearby at the world’s largest archipelago boasting 30,000 islands. With such amenities as, large, heated pools, 50 amp pull thru RV sites, free wi-fi, large playground, rental bikes and mini golf, both kids and the parents will be happy.
Sault Ste. Marie KOA

The Sault Ste. Marie KOA Holiday is an easy pick as a top RV campground for kids. This “Campground of the Year,” award recipient is praised for its cleanliness, and literally built with kid fun in mind. This KOA boasts a large, heated pool, kid playground, fun-bike rentals, mini-golf, basketball, horseshoes, and even GaGa ball. What is that, you ask? Gaga ball is like dodgeball played in an octagonal pit, where players try to strike each other with a ball (below the knees) to eliminate them. Gaga is a fun kinder, gentler, kid-friendly version of dodgeball your children will love!
RV camping mom and dads will love the pull-thru and back-in RV sites options with 50-amp service, with varying site hookups and slide-out room. Each RV site offers on-site parking with gravel and water. Luxury RV sites with patios are also available as an upgrade, which include hard surface patios, patio furniture, propane BBQ, umbrella, and additional seating near a fire ring. Suffice to say, the entire family will be pleased with the Sault Ste Marie KOA as an RV camping choice.
Pancake Bay Provincial Park

Our next kid-friendly RV stop, established in 1968, way up on the north shore of Lake Superior, is the beloved Pancake Bay Provincial Park. In the 1980’s, I had the pleasure of camping at this spectacular park, during my family’s ‘Camp across the country tour’, an adventure I did more than once. My mother chose Pancake Bay, in advance, after learning the park was named for explorers who discovered the bay at the end of their journey, with no food left but flour to make pancakes. Mom savoured the irony in eating pancakes while camping in historic Pancake Bay. Kids love that sort of thing, I know I did. Your kids will spend long hours playing in the bay’s remarkable sand dunes as I once did. The Park offers the RV camping family 328 spacious campsites, including 160 with electricity and 3 comfort stations. Oh, and don’t forget to pack your pancake mix!
Thunder Bay KOA

The awesome Thunder Bay KOA Holiday (Shuniah) is the last stop on our Ontario tour of family-friendly RV campgrounds. It offers 90 sprawling acres of spruce, birch and poplar forests with RV sites tucked under the trees, or in wide-open sunshine if you prefer. Kids will enjoy the golf driving range, mini golf, an outdoor shuffleboard court, as well as two heated saltwater pools and a splash pad. The young anglers in the family can spend time at the unique catch-and-release trout pond. All this kid's fun, along with ice cream socials, hayrides and other planned activities, make Thunder Bay KOA a perfect RV campground for kids.
