7 Best RV-Friendly Roads in Ontario

Planning an epic cross-country road trip this year? Check out the best routes, roads, and campsites for RVers in the province of Ontario.

The massive province of Ontario, Canada offers RVers some of the best campgrounds and scenic sites in the country (hello, Niagara Falls and Kakabeka Falls!). Whether you’re looking to visit our provincial parks, embark on a 10-day tour of Lake Superior, or check out the Lake Temiskaming Tour—here are some of the top scenic and well-maintained routes perfect for an RV adventure.

1. Highway 60 - Algonquin Park Corridor

This corridor offers a beautiful drive through the iconic Algonquin Provincial Park with plenty of spots to pull over and enjoy nature. It’s paved and well-maintained, though watch for moose, especially at dawn and dusk.       

Where to Camp       

Lake of Two Rivers Campground (inside Algonquin Park): Large RV sites, electric hookups, and lake access.       
Canisbay Lake Campground (inside Algonquin Park): More secluded, with electrical sites.       
Algonquin Trails Campground (outside the park, near Dwight): Full hookups, family-friendly.       
 

2. Highway 6 - Manitoulin Island Route

From Tobermory to Manitoulin Island, take the Chi-Cheemaun ferry with your RV for a unique experience. The roads on Manitoulin are mostly wide, smooth, and scenic, leading to great campgrounds.   

Where to Camp       

Tobermory Village Campground (Tobermory): Near the ferry, full hookups, and pool.      
Gordon’s Park (Manitoulin Island): Eco-friendly campground with RV sites and dark-sky stargazing.      
Batman’s Cottages & Campground (Sheguiandah, Manitoulin): Full hookups, beach access, and boat rentals.       
 

3. Highway 17 - Trans-Canada Highway (Northern Ontario)

The legendary cross-Canada highway is known as Highway 17 in Ontario. This road is home to stunning views of Lake Superior, cliffs, and forests, as well as the Sault Ste. Marie to Wawa Coastal Route—one of the best drives in the country. It’s RV-friendly with good roadside stops like Pancake Bay Provincial Park and Kakabeka Falls.

Pancake Bay Provincial Park (near Sault Ste. Marie): Beachfront sites, electrical hookups.       
Neys Provincial Park (north of Marathon): Huge sites, stunning lake views.       
Kakabeka Falls Provincial Park (near Thunder Bay): Large sites, trails leading to Ontario’s second-highest waterfall.       
 

4. Highway 35 & 118 - Haliburton Highlands

Winding roads through cottage country with plenty of lakeside stops = excellent RVing. This route is ideal for a peaceful drive through the historic cottage towns of Minden, Haliburton, and Dorset.     
      
Where to Camp       

Balsam Lake Provincial Park (near Coboconk): Full-service sites, sandy beaches.       
Haliburton Forest & Wild Life Reserve: Secluded, forested sites, plus a wolf sanctuary!       
Minden KOA (Minden): Private sites, pool, and hiking trails.  

5. Prince Edward County Wine Route  


Take Highway 33 (the Loyalist Parkway) along Lake Ontario’s shores. Perfect for RVers who enjoy small towns, wineries, historic spots, and charming campgrounds.  

Where to Camp       

Quinte’s Isle Campark (Cherry Valley): Large, fully serviced sites, close to Sandbanks.       
North Shore RV Park (Consecon): Waterfront sites, full hookups.       
County Shores (Carrying Place): Quiet, family-run campground with great fishing.       
 

6. Highway 11 - Muskoka & Temagami

The gateway to Ontario’s cottage country and beyond into rugged Temagami wilderness. Don’t forget to hike the Temagami Fire Tower!  RV-friendly with many campgrounds, gas stations, and scenic pull-offs.

Marten River Provincial Park (Temagami area): Beautiful pine forest setting, full-service RV sites.       
Finlayson Point Provincial Park (Temagami): Lakeside camping with excellent canoeing.       
 

7. Thousand Islands Parkway    

This short but beautiful detour from the 401 offers scenic views hugging the St. Lawrence River. The route is RV-friendly with picturesque campgrounds like Ivy Lea Campground.       

Where to Camp     

Ivy Lea Campground (Parks of the St. Lawrence): Riverside sites, full hookups, near boat tours.       
1000 Islands KOA: Family-friendly with a pool, full-service sites.       
Charleston Lake Provincial Park: A bit inland but worth it for the peaceful setting and hiking trails.
