49th Apparel

Since 1995 49th Apparel has brought Canadian made and designed women's apparel to the Sault and surrounding area. Daryl's business, 49th Apparel at 480 Queen Street East in historic downtown Sault Ste. Marie has grown to include a classically tailored womenswear collection designed and MADE entirely in CANADA twice yearly. Dresses, tailored jackets, trench coats, and suitings now round out the store. Using beautiful natural fabrics like woolens, silks and the finest cottons and linens, Daryls clothing is made to last.

After finishing design school Daryl Wier moved home to Sault Ste. Marie and began designing and crafting beautiful sleepwear for the entire family. That was over 20 years ago and it is still something he does to this day with the help of his seamstress of more than 15 years Emilia! Together just the 2 of them design, cut, sew, market and merchandise hundreds of pairs of locally made pajamas every year. Made up in beautiful plaid cotton flannels in the fall/winter, and crisp cotton shirtings in the spring/summer, Daryl now sells his pajamas all over North America and has even shipped some to Europe. 

These are not only the most comfortable and beautifully made pajamas you will ever own, but they are available in sizes from kids 6 months to adult XL for men, women, boys and girls!

The Rad Zone

The Rad Zone was established by Paul "Monk" Muncaster in 1984, here in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario Canada. Originally as Radical Records (housed ontop of Bruce Street Hill) - Paul carved a niche out for himself as the leader in selling rare vinyl that couldn't be found anywhere else in Sault Ste. Marie. He was often taking trips to cities like Vancouver and Toronto... and bringing back punk and metal albums that weren't commercially available in other record stores.

The Rad Zone was also the first place that you could actually buy skateboards in the Sault. Fully stocked with safety gear, skateboard decks, hardwear, gear and accessories - it was instrumental in bringing skateboarding to Sault Ste. Marie in the mid-late 80's and early 90's. After moving space from Bruce Street to down on Queen and then to Dennis Street - The Rad Zone had matured into being known for the one stop shop for skaters and record collectors alike. Paul was always on hand to ask questions and would gladly take down products and start up hunts to find what was wanted.

Now located in the Wellington Square Mall on Trunk Road - The Rad Zone has expanded to house Hole In The Wall Books - a new and used book store with hundreds of golden finds ranging from SciFi to Fantasy to Fiction to Kids... and also The Rad Zone's Street Boutique - a clothing store centered on fashionable streetwear for both men and women. Still promoting amazing finds for vinyl and fully stocked skateboard equiptment as well as a huge selection of both new and used video games, systems and accesories - The Rad Zone is still here and has no intention of leaving.

A small staffed and completely independently owned and operated - The Rad Zone fully supports local musicians and skateboarders - and can often be found sponsoring and showing up to events.

Algoma Bicycle Company

ABC (Algoma Bicycle Company) was established by Brad Phaneuf and Paul de Beer who wanted to develop their passion for cycling and skiing and the outdoors into a thriving business. The doors to 'the shop' opened in 2008 and they have been offering Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma area the best selection of bikes, cross-county skis, snowshoes and service since then. Brad and Paul chose to locate on Queen Street because they recognize the importance of a strong, vibrate downtown to a community!

You can find this brilliantly created cafe downtown Sault Ste. Marie Ontario. Shabby Motley opened it's doors for the first time on October 1st, 2013 by owner and operator Ashleigh Sauve.  The space is dedicated to showcase an array of regionally produced goods, including handcrafts, textiles, art and edibles as well as, wool, yarn, felting, embroidery, books, needles and hooks, spinning and weaving.
